Workman’s Digital Holiday Wallpaper

Whether you’ve set your menorah in its special spot or strung garland from your tallest bookshelves, we can’t forget getting festive on our desktops too! The talented Tom Booth, illustrator of the 100 historical figures in Who Wins? (written by Clay Swartz), was gracious enough to put together an exclusive wallpaper for the Workman blog. Before you get downloading, Workman HQ asked Tom to answer a few questions about the end of this year and the beginning of the next.

What’s your favorite part of the holiday season?

TB: The holidays can be a crazy time of year because there’s so much to do. Despite the madness, I always look forward to that moment when everyone seems to be in the holiday spirit. It’s the little exchanges between total strangers and the smiling faces that get me excited every year. That said, seeing my family together will always be my favorite part.

What was the best part of 2016? And what are you most looking forward to in 2017?

TB: The best part of 2016 was getting engaged to my fiancée, Jen. Being a creative person can be challenging, and even more challenging if you do it alone. Jen listens to all my bad book ideas, my lousy jokes, and inspires me all the time. Also, I think I would get in trouble if I said anything else—like illustrating Who Wins?—was the best part of 2016!

As far as 2017 is concerned, I’m most looking forward to the release of my book, DON’T BLINK! This will be my debut as both author and illustrator of a picture book, and I can’t wait to see it on shelves!

What’s your top advice for those diving into new creative projects in 2017?

TB: If you’re diving into a creative project in 2017 keep two things in mind:

  • Putting your ideas on paper takes courage, time, and effort.
  • Remember why you started.

When you’re in the middle of a project that seems to have no end, it’s easy to slow down, or stop completely. But if you really challenge yourself to produce something to the best of your ability, you will be surprised by what you can accomplish, and how much you’ll grow in the process.

What a perfect sentiment to end on, and with that: Tom’s knit-tastic digital wallpaper.
