Candied Apples That You Eat with a Fork

CandiedApples cropped

As a girl, author Christy Jordan found “nothing more magical than a shiny red candied apple.” But her teeth can’t handle them these days, so she uses her friend Jyl’s recipe for candied apples that you eat with a fork. “All of the same flavors but no risk of needing a dental visit after the fact! These are delicious hot or cold.” (Quotes from Come Home to Supper.)

Candied Apples

Serves 4

  • 4 to 5 apples, cored, peeled, and roughly chopped (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cup tiny cinnamon candies (such as Red Hots)
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) butter
  1. Place the apples in a large skillet. Pour the candies over them and add the butter.
  2. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring often, until all the candies are melted. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the apples are fork tender, about 10 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
