Winter is Coming
Dubonnet Rouge (a fortified wine with herb and spice notes) and Hennessey duke it out for control of the throne, as absinthe lurks in the background, waiting to take its rightful place.
ABV: 12.22%
Glass: Floral Bowl
Garnish: Snowflake or direwolf stencil
Ingredients
- 17 ounces water
- 8½ ounces Simple Syrup (page 18)
- 4¼ ounces Dubonnet Rouge Aperitif Wine
- 10¼ ounces Hennessy Cognac
- ¼ teaspoon Angostura Bitters
- Absinthe wash for each glass
Instructions
Combine → Place the water, simple syrup, Dubonnet Rouge, Hennessy, and bitters in a medium-size metal bowl and stir.
Freeze → Pour the liquid into a large freezer bag and place it in the freezer until frozen, approximately 4 hours. Alternatively, pour the liquid into an ice cream maker and proceed per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Serve → When you’re ready to drink, massage the freezer bag by hand until it’s a wet, slushy consistency. If it’s not breaking up, run the bag quickly under hot water and massage some more. Pour a splash of absinthe in each serving glass and turn the glass to coat before adding the sloshie.
Yield → Makes at least 4 drinks (or fewer, depending on how bloody this episode is).
